#### _Detailed explanation of the problem:_

Hi together,

When using the Adabas utility adafin, we receive the error message shown in the attachment.
Here is the used command:

**adafin db=${DBNR} file=\* usage=ds**.

I am aware that this error can occur when adafin tries to access superdescriptors.
However, as I understand it, that is not the case with this command.
Where am I going wrong? Could the error have something to do with the Linux version we’re using (6.6.0.2)?

Are any files locked for exclusive use? Check the DIB for utility locks - such as another utility running or failed.

Hi Douglas,

thanks for your answer!
No, nothing is locked. The files aren’t locked, and there aren’t any utility locks either.

Best regards,

I’d suggest a support ticket. Since the utility has only done one I/O to the associator, it is identifying an issue very early on. You might run ADAVFY to validate the ASSO control blocks.

Could you please provide the output of the following commands?

To check whether any files are locked for non-utility use:

`adaopr dbid=${DBNR} display=ucb`

To check whether any files are currently locked by active users:

`adaopr dbid=${DBNR} display=uq_files`

Could you also let us know what happens when you run ADAFIN against a specific file number?

`adafin dbid=${DBNR} file=nnn usage=ds`

Regarding your environment, I also noticed that the Adabas version you are using (6.6.0.2) has been out of support for several years. While I am not aware of any specific issue in this area that is related to that version, I would recommend considering an upgrade to the latest product version, or at least to a currently supported release.

Hi Sven,
thanks for your answer!

- No file is locked by Utilities (adaopr db=$DBNR di=ucb)

- Yes, there are users currently using the database

But the question is, why is this a problem for adafin? The documentation doesn’t say anything about exclusive access.

Or to be more specific: Does adafin require exclusive access — yes or no?

No, adafin does not require exclusive access. However, if a utility is running that locks the file (UTI lock) or an application has an EXF lock, then adafin cannot open the file for ACCess.
