Use tags to find what matters to you

Tags make it easier to find content about specific products, technologies and topics.

You can combine tags to narrow down what you’re looking for and follow the topics that are most relevant to you.

3. Search before you ask

Have a question? There’s a good chance someone has already asked it.

Before creating a new topic, take a moment to search the community. You can:

  • Use Search to find existing questions, answers and discussions
  • Browse Sections to explore conversations by area
  • Use Popular Tags in the sidebar to quickly filter content by product or topic
  • Go directly to Release Information when you’re looking for release notes or roadmaps

A quick search can save you time and may help you find an answer immediately.

You can always use the search, its advanced options and filters:

4. Ask a question or start a conversation

Couldn’t find what you’re looking for? Start a new topic.

When creating a topic:

  • Choose a clear title: Make it easy for others to understand what you need.
  • Add enough context: Explain what you’re trying to do, what you’ve already tried and what happened.
  • Add relevant tags: Tags help the right people discover your topic and make it easier for others to find your question later.
  • Include useful details: For technical questions, include relevant error messages, product versions, code snippets or other information that can help others understand the issue.

Check out the guide here:

5. Join the conversation

You don’t have to start a new topic to contribute.

You can:

:speech_balloon: Reply

Share an answer, add more information or build on someone else’s idea.

You can reply to the topic in general or click Reply on an individual post to respond to a specific comment.

 React

Found a post helpful, interesting or relevant? Show your appreciation with a reaction.

You can now choose from different emoji reactions, rather than only using a thumbs-up.

:person_raising_hand: Me Too

See a question that you have too?

Click Me Too to let the author and the community know that you’re interested in the answer as well. This can also help show which questions are particularly relevant to the wider community.

@ Mention someone

Want to get someone’s attention?

Type @ followed by their username to mention them in your post. You can also search by their name if you don’t know their exact username.

Quote a post

Want to respond to a specific part of someone’s comment?

Select the text you want to quote and choose Quote. Keep quotes focused on the part you’re responding to rather than quoting an entire post.

6. Drafts

Drafts will automatically be saved as you write. If you minimize the editor or navigate to a different topic, the editor might disappear. To open a draft, return to the topic you were replying to or click the highlighted bar at the bottom of your browser, and the editor will reappear with your draft.

7. Formatting

Your reply can be formatted using simple HTML, BBCode, or Markdown:

This is <b>bold</b>.
This is [b]bold[/b].
This is **bold**.

8. Keep track of the conversations that matter

You don’t have to keep checking back manually to see if something has changed.

TECH Community can notify you when there is activity that matters to you, including:

  • Someone replies to your post
  • Someone mentions you
  • Someone quotes your post
  • A topic, tag or section you follow gets new activity

You’ll see notifications through your profile and can also choose to receive email or browser notifications.

Follow a topic

Want to know when a specific discussion gets new replies?

Use the notification control at the bottom of the topic to choose how closely you want to follow it.

Follow a tag

Interested in a specific product or topic?

You can set notification preferences for individual tags. Go to the tag page and use the bell icon, or manage your tag preferences in your user preferences.

Manage your notification preferences

You can fine-tune your notifications at any time.

Go to your avatar → Edit Profile → Preferences → Subscriptions & alerts to choose how you want TECH Community to keep you informed.

9. Personalize your experience

As you become more active in TECH Community, you’ll build trust within the community.

New users may have some temporary limitations while they get started. As you participate and build trust, these limitations are gradually lifted and you’ll gain access to additional community features.

You can also personalize your profile and notification settings to make TECH Community work better for you.

10. A few tips for getting the most from TECH Community

1. Be specific. Clear questions get better answers

2. Share what you know. If you’ve solved a problem, your experience could help someone else.

3. Search first. Existing discussions often contain exactly what you need.

4. Use tags. They help you find relevant content and make your own posts easier to discover.

5. Keep conversations focused. If you have a completely different question, start a new topic instead of adding it to an existing discussion.

6. Be respectful. TECH Community brings together Software AG customers, partners, employees and users from around the world. Keep conversations constructive and welcoming.
